Happy Thanksgiving 2023 - and Happy 6th Birthday to Averi!

For Thanksgiving 2017, Esther and I gave far more than our standard amount of thanks - for, on that day, in that year, our darling granddaughter AVERI was born!

And as the calendar works, six years later, her birthday falls on Thanksgiving once again - and so we happily summon up a metric ton of of additional thanks for the wonderful presence in our lives that she has become!

And still more thanks for Cici and Logan who followed!

As for Thanksgiving, I'm remined of the time last year, where I showed Averi the great Warner Bros. cartoon "Tom Turk and Daffy" - in which Porky Pig as a pilgrim hunted a frantic turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.

In her kindergarten class, she had to "disguise" a drawing of a turkey with crayons, paper scraps, etc. lest he be found on Thanksgiving.  Since this was akin to Daffy Duck hiding the turkey from hunter Porky, I showed her the cartoon.

And, while she laughed at all the antics, she questioned why Porky didn't just buy a turkey at the store like we did!

You just GOTTA LOVE HER!

Thank you, and the same to you and yours, Elaine!

We had our birthday celebration for Averi last night (Thanksgiving Eve), one of several she will have with the different factions of her extended family over these few days (as would Cici and Logan).

And, even though Cici sang “Happy Birthday” to her big sister, and explicitly wished her happy birthday verbally, she still wondered why *she* didn’t get any presents too.

Happy Thanksgiving, Joe! And Happy Birthday, Averi! One's birthday occasionally coinciding with Thanksgiving must be pretty cool. It gives the birthday a different flavor from time to time. I would think it's better than one's birthday coinciding with Christmas. Birthday gifts and festivities coinciding with their Christmas counterparts has always seemed to me like too much joyousness crammed into too short a timespan. (I say "seemed" because neither I nor anyone I know was born on Christmas Day). And people whose birthday falls on Christmas Day are stuck with this combination forever, since, unlike Thanksgiving, Christmas always falls on the same day each year!

On another note, thanks for recommending "Tom Turk and Daffy." I hadn't seen that short before, but this post prompted me to seek it out. Fun stuff. Really enjoyed the role reversal between Tom Turk and Daffy Duck, as well as the ice gags. Most of all, though, I got a real kick out of Daffy's self-justification for revealing Tom's whereabouts to Porky: "It was the yams that did it! It wasn't me!"

Thank you for the good wishes.

I’d rather have the rotating Thanksgiving birthday than the fixed Christmas one, because I’d be more of the center attraction with the former. On Christmas, there’s always a birthday that would overshadow mine! :-)

Besides, there was a song that went sorta like… “But I’m only getting’ half o’ what I oughtta, ‘cause my birthday’s on Christmas!”

Glad Averi and I moved you to check out "Tom Turk and Daffy." I actually referenced the line about the yams, in the Donald Duck story “Moldfinger” or “The Spy Who Ducked-Out on Me”!

A Beagle Boy tries to break an imprisoned Donald of his self-imposed hunger strike:

BEAGLE BOY: “Chicken soup made from stolen free-range hens… None o’ them factory-raised clucks! An’ then roast turkey an’ gravy with applesauce an’ candied yams!”

DONALD “Must… resist! No! Not even the YAMS will do it!”

…You just never know where a good Looney Tunes reference might turn up!

A good friend of mine has his birthday on Christmas Eve. He says it's a great time to have a birthday. And I can personally vouch for New Year's Day as the optimal date for a birthday!

So Happy Birthday to Averi and may she have many more Thanksgiving-associated birthdays! Holiday birthdays rock! (As anyone blessed with a holiday birthday will tell you!)
