A universal shorthand technique in creating a female counterpart to a male character - in animation and in comics - is to give that counterpart a HAIR BOW... usually pink!
But, how would that play out in real life? Well, Cici's here to show you!
...And doesn't she look CUTE? With or without the bow!

Cute indeed! As long as she doesn't have to wear the bow when she's wearing, oh, a swim cap or a bicycle/diver's/space helmet.... I wish I could illustrate these with pictures of Daisy, but you know what I'm referring to! Though this silliness isn't gender-specific: there were puzzles showing astronaut Scrooge wearing his top hat *inside* (Playschool) and *on top of* (Whitman) his spherical helmet!
Elaine:
Cici actually prefers tiaras to bows! She wanted to wear a tiara to her Pre-K graduation last week and had to be talked out of it and into the standard mortarboard graduate’s cap, which she only wore reluctantly and quickly switched back to the tiara for her graduation lunch!
She’s rarely without some sort of cranial adornment, be it a headband, hat, funny upright ears, or (of course) a tiara! But bows are a definite part of the mix.
I do indeed “know what [you’re] referring to”, and I think that even Cici would draw the line at additionally accessorizing a swim cap or bicycle helmet. She’s yet to deep-sea dive like Captain Crane and crewman Kowalski of the Seaview, nor has she rocketed into a brief space excursion with Jeff Bezos or… ya know, that “other space-taxi guy with the chainsaw”, but I think she’d opt for no bow or hat in either case!
…But, a TIARA might be another story!
It may be silly and dated, but bows have become Minnie and Daisy’s signature headgear. Minnie Mouse even has her own “Bow-Tique” on Disney’s preschool programming. At least Minnie and Daisy weren’t stuck with red two-button shorts or a sailor’s jacket and beret-style cap.
Deb (you write):
“At least Minnie and Daisy weren’t stuck with red two-button shorts or a sailor’s jacket and beret-style cap.”
Yes, that would indeed have been worse! Then again, that might have made them trendsetters!
