Thanksgiving 1964 was a happy one for Donald Duck, as this Carl Barks cover from WALT DISNEY’S COMICS AND STORIES # 292 shows.
|RUN, you turkeys! RUN!|
He was thankful indeed to not be on the “receiving end” of the cover gag for a change.
I was thankful too, because this was the second issue of WDC&S that I received via mail subscription, during my single-digit-years! Though, I WAS a tad disappointed to find that the Mickey Mouse story “The Phantom Ship” had nothing to do with “The Phantom Blot”… who had “Returned” in WDC&S just a short while earlier. (Yes, that’s how I *really* felt back then!)
Speaking of things to be thankful for, let us ALL give thanks that we don’t have to tangle with Tex Avery’s “Jerky Turkey”, as the poor Pilgrim schlub pictured below had to do.
|Who you callin' "Jerky", Turkey!|
And, for those who HAVE seen this superb MGM cartoon, be thankful that we witnessed the ending as mere spectators – and not participants!
…Gobble-Gobble! ...Gulp! Gulp!
...The Bitter End!
