Fun with DVDs: Mo Moby! ...Or Moby Dick Double Feature!

Anyway, ya gotta admit that “Mo Moby!” beats “Yo, Yogi!”

How many people can say, I GOT ‘EM BOTH! ...I can!

One has Gregory Peck, Richard Basehart, and Orson Welles (…not playing the Whale!)

The other has two scuba-kids and a SEAL named “Scooby”… and a prehistoric superhero, to boot!

Perhaps I should rephrase that to say: How many people would ADMIT to having them both!

Great Orson Whales...I mean, Welles...fat joke there, Joe!

You know, for all the demeaning remarks that have been made about Welles' girth, the man's body of work (ummm...is that a fat joke) in the late 50s is staggering. He wasn't the washed-up, has-been actor that is the cliched belief of the masses.

Mr. Arkadin, Moby Dick, The Long, Hot Summer, Touch of Evil (most directors would kill to produce one film of this quality), Compulsion, Ferry to Hong Kong...(That last one I haven't seen, but I have read that it is wonderful.)

Obviously, I love the guy. And I think, once the beard was fully developed, he made a very handsome and distinguished fat man, lol.

I look forward to your review of "Moby Dick and the Mighty Mightor."

When using the phrase “washed-up” in reference to Orson Welles and whales, I commend you on your great restraint for not adding “on the beach”, even parenthetically!

My review of “Moby Dick and The Mighty Mightor” will be coming eventually. I often write them way in advance. I have about six different reviews already written and waiting to be properly spaced-out. (…And some of my reviews CAN be rather “spaced-out”!)

In the meantime, please enjoy my upcoming review of “The Herculoids” – also 1967, and also from The Warner Archive Collection.

It will read largely the same as will the “Moby Dick and The Mighty Mightor” review… because, if you’ve seen one, you’ve seem ‘em both!

Of course, that means… If you love one, you’ll love ‘em both, as well!

Joe.
